Chrome Extension

Download Sorter

Choose, per tab or tab group, a subfolder under your Downloads directory where files should be saved — set it on the fly, from a toolbar popup, and let new tabs inherit it automatically. Built for pulling logs and artifacts across several tabs of the same tool during an incident, without them all landing in one undifferentiated folder.

How it works

Group the tabs for one incident or case into a Chrome tab group, then set that group's folder from the extension popup. Any download triggered from a tab in that group is saved to ~/Downloads/<your-folder>/... instead of the default Downloads root. New tabs opened from a tab in the group — via link, duplicate, or (where Chrome sets an opener) the new-tab hotkey — join the group automatically and inherit its folder. A single ungrouped tab can also be given its own folder without forming a group.

Privacy policy

Effective September 19, 2026

In one line: Download Sorter collects nothing, stores everything locally on your device, and sends no data anywhere.

Data we collect. None. The extension has no server, makes no network requests, and includes no analytics, tracking, or advertising code of any kind. Nothing about your browsing, your downloads, or your tab activity is transmitted to the developer or to any third party.

Browser data the extension reads. Tab titles, group names, and download filenames are read only to compute a save path locally — see the permissions table above for exactly which APIs are used and why. None of it is logged, stored remotely, or sent anywhere.

Where data is stored. Per-tab-group and per-tab folder assignments live in Chrome's local storage.session and are cleared automatically when you close your browser. A short list of recently used folder names lives in Chrome's local storage.local, stored only on your device.

Changes to this policy. Any update will be posted at this same page with a revised effective date above.
